In light of the recent release of the Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig, MLI Senior Fellow Charles Burton joined CHED Mid-Morning with Shayne Ganam to discuss Canada’s approach to China and the upcoming decision from the federal government on Huawei.
“The question really is why won’t the government make a decision on Huawei 5G when all of the other members of the Five Eyes Intelligence consortium have determined that the Huawei’s 5G technology poses a significant security threat,” notes Burton. “[Huawei] would be bound under Chinese law to provide Chinese intelligence with any information [it might gather] about databases, cyber espionage or critical infrastructure…”
