Privacy Policy

The Macdonald-Laurier Institute (MLI) respects and upholds an individual’s right to privacy. This privacy policy explains how we collect and use personal and non-personal information. This privacy policy is inclusive of MLI’s website, as well as MLI’s app.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

On MLI’s website and app, we do not collect personally identifiable information from individuals through the website or app unless this information is provided voluntarily and knowingly. For example, subscribing to our mailing list or newsletter requires us to collect your email address. If you provide us with personal information, we will use that information to communicate with you. We may also use personal information to provide you with more information related to our services and organization.

Whether on the website or app, users are under no obligation to provide us with personally identifiable information and may access and download information from our website and app without providing personal information.

Any and all personal information that you voluntarily provide is protected under the provisions of Canada’s federal privacy legislation. We do not share personal information with third parties. Only people employed by MLI who need access to the information can access it.

Collection and Use of Non-personal and Aggregate Information

We automatically log information about visits to the website and app in the normal course of establishing and maintaining web connections. Our server(s) record statistical information such as visitors’ Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, time and duration of visit, and web pages visited in order to analyze web traffic. MLI does not associate server log information to other data in a way that would enable us to identify individual site visitors.

Like most websites, we use “cookies” to obtain non-personal information from our online visitors. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s hard drive containing information about the user. The MLI website uses cookies for measuring aggregate web statistics, including number of monthly visitors, number of repeat visitors, most popular Web pages and other information. Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but can be configured not to accept them or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. If you choose not to allow the collection of “cookies”, you will be able to use the MLI website, but some features may not be available.

MLI’s app does not collect cookies, though users of the app may be directed to MLI’s website, where the above cookie policy applies.

Data Security

MLI is committed to the security of personal information it may collect online or offline. We have taken reasonable precautions to protect this personal information from loss, misuse or alteration. Any parties employed by us who may have roles in managing such information are also committed to the same principles. This applies to both MLI’s website and app, as well as any voluntary user provision of data.

External Website Links

The MLI website and app include links to third party websites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such external sites.
