A recent report from CSIS suggests that China has attempted to tamper with Canada’s elections. This, combined with China’s escalating human rights abuses, aggression toward neighbours, and belligerent posture on the global stage present serious challenges. To make sense of what must be done about the threats posed by China, CBC News’ Natasha Fatah spoke with MLI Senior Fellow Charles Burton
“I think the government is gradually coming around to the idea that we cannot continue to make compromises to China on non-economic areas so that we can achieve more access to the Chinese market,” says Burton. “China is an actively destructive force attempting to destroy the international rules-based order and establish itself as a global hegemon.”
According to Burton, it’s clear that our allies “want Canada to step up much more.”
