The decision by the B.C. Supreme Court to allow Meng Wanzhou’s extradition trial to continue has drawn strong reactions from China, further fraying Canada-China relations. MLI senior fellow Charles Burton was on BNN Bloomberg news to discuss the decision.
“I think the Chinese government said that if Ms. Meng was not released that it would cause continuous harm to Canada/China relations,” says Burton.
Burton goes on to discuss the potential ramifications of China’s retaliation including what could be in store for Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor and how this could impact Canada’s trade with China.
