On July 14, US President Donald Trump signed the Hong Kong Autonomy Act, removing Hong Kong’s preferential status and imposes sanctions on Chinese officials in the wake of China’s imposition of the “national security law” over Hong Kong. MLI Managing Director Brian Lee Crowley appeared on CTV News to provide his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s signing of the Hong Kong Autonomy Act.
“Throughout his talk, he was continually sticking his finger in the eye China,” says Crowley. “He has signaled very directly to the American public and to the Chinese leadership that he is going to start pushing back and he’s using Hong Kong as a further step.”
Crowley goes on to discuss the implications of the Hong Kong Autonomy Act and how Canada should move forward on a variety of issues pertaining to Canada-China relations, such as what to do about Huawei’s participation in 5G.
