Environmental groups have actively opposed natural resource and infrastructure development in Indigenous territories. Many Indigenous communities see them as latter-day missionaries – outsiders convinced of their analyses and priorities and willing to impose their views on Indigenous peoples and communities. Environmentalists have thwarted Indigenous development, upended whole industries, ignored community priorities, and attacked Indigenous leaders who support carefully done resource projects. This webinar examines the tactics and impacts of environmentalists’ intervention on resource initiatives from an Indigenous perspective.
