Managing Director Brian Lee Crowley joined CTV News to discuss China’s continued sustained pressure campaign in the wake of leveling formal spurious charges against Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor.
“There is absolutely nothing unusual in China’s behaviour on this file,” explains Crowley. “They have consistently kidnapped and arbitrarily detained citizens of a number of countries. This is simply another example of how China behaves when another country thwarts its will.”
Crowley goes on to discuss the options on the table for Ottawa as the geopolitical fight continues between China and Canada. Crowley also emphasizes the need to not engage in a “hostage swap” with China as it would establish hostage diplomacy as an effective political pressure tactic for China and others.
