The federal government still has room to spend as part of budget 2015 despite making some costly promises related to income splitting and other initiatives, Macdonald-Laurier Institute Senior Fellow Philip Cross told CTV’s Power Play.
Federal finance minister Joe Oliver announced last week that the government would deliver its budget on April 21.
The government has promised a balanced budget but Cross says he believes there will still be a few billion dollars available for new spending.
“I think we’ll continue to see restraint, particularly on the public service compensation side of things, and they’ll want to produce a surplus”
