MLI Visiting Fellow Jerome Gessaroli, an instructor at the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s School of Business, spoke to BNN Bloomberg about the effectiveness of EV subsidies. “Electric vehicles are quite a bit more expensive than the equivalent combustion engine vehicles,” says Gessaroli. “As a result, higher-income households are primarily the main purchasers for these vehicles. So they are the ones accessing these government subsidies.” He goes on note that are less costly carbon abatement methods that should be prioritized.
