OTTAWA, ON (September 23, 2022): With recent news of Russian forces being forced to retreat in the face of the Ukrainian onslaught, the Kremlin has once again resorted to desperately lashing out at critics. Having deemed one more MLI expert as a threat, the Kremlin has inadvertently recognized the diligence and value of MLI’s work.
Senior Fellow Sarah Teich’s name featured in a newly published list of 87 Canadians who have been banned from entering Russia. There is no mystery as to why: Teich has consistently reported on human rights abuses across the world, not only in Russia and war-torn Ukraine, but also in the despotic countries the Kremlin deems as valuable partners and allies.
“I see my inclusion on this list as an honour,” says Teich. “It is great, external validation that the work that I’m doing has impact. I intend to keep doing it.”
Teich now joins a growing list of MLI experts whose commentary has drawn the ire of Putin’s regime. The eight sanctioned individuals at MLI are as follows:
- Chris Alexander, Distinguished Fellow
- Charles Burton, Senior Fellow
- Balkan Devlen, Senior Fellow
- Marcus Kolga, Senior Fellow
- Shuvaloy Majumdar, Senior Fellow and Foreign Policy Program Director
- Richard Shimooka, Senior Fellow
- Charles Burton, Senior Fellow
- Aurel Braun, Advisory Council Member
The Kremlin’s attempts at intimidation reveal a desperate lack of options in retaliating against Western sanctions and Ukrainian victories on the field. We at MLI will continue to not only push for good and reasonable public policy, but also to hold the Kremlin and its axis of despotism to account.
