OTTAWA, ON (June 2, 2026):
Amid record levels of antisemitic incidents in Canada and growing concerns about the safety and future of Canada’s Jewish community, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a series of new measures aimed at combatting antisemitism and hate-motivated violence.
To address the Prime Minister’s new measures, the following experts from the Macdonald-Laurier Institute’s Foreign Policy and Promised Land programs are available to provide comment to the media:
Alan Kessel is a former assistant deputy minister and legal adviser to the Government of Canada and a former deputy high commissioner of Canada to the United Kingdom. He is a senior fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute.
Sarah Teich is an international human rights lawyer, a senior fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, and co-founder and president of Human Rights Action Group.
Brian L. Cox is an adjunct professor at Cornell Law School, a journalism graduate student at Carleton University, and a senior fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2018 after 22 years of military service, including seven years as a military lawyer.
