The Macdonald-Laurier Institute was pleased to host esteemed author and journalist Douglas Murray in Vancouver for an armchair discussion with Brian Lee Crowley on why Western Civilization is worth defending.
Douglas shared his insights on a range of public policy and cultural issues. Topics of discussion included:
- The present-day assault on figures of the enlightenment and on reason itself;
- The transatlantic slave trade and the strangeness of the persistent accusations that the West is particularly racist;
- The utter naivety of the idea that the Canadian government can eliminate hate (or any other vice);
- The horrors of intifada and the attacks on Israel as the forefront of a geopolitical challenge to the West;
- The decaying trust in news media and journalists.
Douglas concluded with a call to Canadians to be grateful for the many blessings of Western culture.
Our thanks to Douglas Murray and to all who attended!
