Scott Newark’s recently-released Macdonald-Laurier Institute commentary on Bill C-51, Canada’s new anti-terrorism legislation, made a splash with the news media.
(The interview begins at around the 33:30 minute mark)
The commentary received coverage from the CBC, while Newark also spoke with Victoria radio station CFAX.
Newark makes the case that C-51 is a measured response to a dangerous threat that respects individual privacy while still protecting collective security.
“On both sides of the equation, in my opinion…the hype and the hysteria has taken over, and that kind of clear, analytical debate has not been at what I think should be the level on an issue as important as this”, he says.
