On November 21, the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, in partnership with the embassies of Poland, Romania, and Lithuania, hosted a conference featuring two insightful panels which delved into the political, economic, and energy dynamics surrounding the 3 Seas Initiative (3SI), while also exploring the strategic ways in which Canada can strengthen and leverage its transatlantic ties to contribute to an enhanced European cohesion.
Following opening remarks by Witold Dzielski, Ambassador of Poland in Canada, two panel discussions ensued, focusing on the themes of regional politics against the backdrop of the ongoing war in the Ukraine as well as the crucial role Canada has to play in securing the economic and energy security goals of the 3SI.
Panel members discussed the role of the Initiative during a critical time for Europe, as well as its potential role as a robust political platform geared towards fostering transatlantic cooperation. Panel members also discussed how the 3SI could further develop and integrate Central and Eastern Europe countries across key interest areas of the economy, energy, security, infrastructure, and the digital sector.
