MLI Munk Senior Fellow Christian Leuprecht sat down with Steve Paikan on The Agenda to discuss what could be done to make the military more appealing and sustainable. “There are significant challenges within the training system, as a result of which, the military is only operating at about 85% of its operational capacity,” says Leuprecht. “There are some challenges around representation among Indigenous members, immigrant communities, visible minorities, but there are significant challenges around the attraction of the organization to women.” Without necessary changes to outdated policies and procedures, Leuprecht goes on to say that the Canadian military “may not be able to perform for Canadians and for the government to the extent and the complexity that it may be called upon.”
