Macdonald-Laurier Institute authors Ken Coates and Greg Poelzer have received nominations for several prestigious awards for their books on Aboriginal Canada.
From Treaty Peoples To Treaty Nation, a book co-authored by both Coates and Poelzer, has been shortlisted for the Donner Prize. The award is given annually to the best public policy book by a Canadian.
The book, which breathes new life into the debate about Aboriginal prosperity, also received a nomination for the Saskatchewan Book Awards in the Scholarly Writing category.
Coates also received nominations for the Saskatchewan Book Awards in the Non-Fiction, Publishing Award and Saskatoon Book Award for another book he wrote, #IdleNoMore and the Remaking of Canada.
The book argues that the Idle No More movement will have a lasting impact that extends far beyond the protests that spawned it, both for Aboriginal peoples and the rest of Canada.
