The federal government may have no choice but to run deficits in the short term, said MLI Senior Fellow Sean Speer on CBC’s Power and Politics. But it also needs to come up with a plan to get back to a balanced budget over the long-term.
“The government needs a firm plan to come out of deficit, because good intentions and good wishes is ultimately not the way to end the protracted spending that we’ve witnessed at other levels of government and at the federal level for the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s”, said Speer.
Speer’s interview begins around the 1:35:00 mark.
