Leuprecht said the country is caught in a tug of war between competing entities on its borders.
“Now we live with the aftermath of certain entities in Europe having pushed really hard to pull Ukraine closer into the European orbit and the Russians pushing back”, he said.
“The Russians (are) making it abundantly clear that they’re not about to let Ukraine out of their grip”.
Leuprecht has authored several papers on security and international affairs for the Macdonald-Laurier Institute. These include “Organized Crime Beyond the Border” and “What Do Muslim Canadians Want?”.
Earlier this month Leuprecht discussed MH17, the Malaysian airliner shot down in Ukraine, with CTV News Channel and the Sun News Network.
