On November 25, 2025, the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, with the support of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, hosted an armchair discussion featuring Deputy Minister Dr. Chen Ming-chi of Taiwan to discuss Taiwan’s evolving role in the Indo-Pacific and the growing importance of Canada–Taiwan collaboration.

Following welcoming remarks from Foreign Policy Director Christopher Coates. Deputy Minister Chen delivered a keynote address highlighting Taiwan’s strategic challenges and priorities, before engaging in a one-on-one armchair discussion with Managing Director Brian Lee Crowley, covering shared interests in regional security and resilience, and the constructive role Canada can play in supporting Taiwan amidst an increasingly complex strategic environment.

The discussion concluded with an audience Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to engage directly with Deputy Minister Chen on pressing issues. The session closed at 11:00 a.m. with remarks from MLI and TECO representatives.
