Canada is reeling after the news of the homicide of a Muslim family in London, Ontario. With four dead and another injured the suspect, now in custody, had targeted the family due to their faith according to the London Police. Now, questions arise as to whether the suspect will face terrorism charges for the attack. MLI Senior Fellow Christian Leuprecht joined CBC News to discuss this issue.
“These cases raise troubling challenges in the sense that we need to distinguish between violent extremism and extremist violence,” notes Leuprecht. “A whole number of people who engage in action are motivated by any other host of mechanisms or causal factors and then often instrumentalize views such as ideology or religion in order to justify an act.”
