July 22, 2011 – The Rutherford Show invited MLI Managing Director Brian Lee Crowley on the radio show today (guest host Roy Green) at 12:05pm ET to discuss interprovincial subsidies after the recent comments made by Premier Dalton McGuinty that the oil & gas industry is being subsidized by Ontario. In the interview, Crowley says that the oil & gas industry is not being subsidized and he discusses the report that Mr. McGuinty based his comments on to support his argument. An excerpt below:
He is relying on a report by the International institute for Sustainable Development that came out in 2010 that suggests that the federal government and the provincial governments were providing about $3 billion in subsidies to support oil production in Canada. That report, I think, has been pretty thoroughly discredited. Most of the things that they counted as subsidies are in fact things that are available to all industries or in many cases they are things that are being phased out for the oil and gas industry.
