MLI Managing Director Brian Lee Crowley participated in a panel discussion Tuesday on how development of the oil sands in Alberta is affecting the rest of the country.
The event was part of the Canadian Oil Sands Energy Dialogue conference, organized by global market and economic information provider IHS.
Mowat Centre director Matthew Mendelsohn and HSBC Bank Canada chief economist David Watt also took part in the panel, which IHS Energy vice-president Jim Burkhard chaired.
MLI has conducted extensive research that examines the role of natural resource development on the rest of the Canadian economy. In January 2013 the Institute published a paper showing why Dutch Disease, the phrase commonly attached to a claim that surging revenue from energy exports hurts other industries like manufacturing, is a myth.
