The Colonial Pipeline was hacked in an attempted ransomware attack earlier this month. The pipeline transports nearly half of the U.S. east coast’s fuel supplies and the shutdown operations caused gas prices to soar. Now, questions arise if such an attack could happen in Canada? Exactly how vulnerable is Canadian infrastructure to attack?
MLI Senior Fellow Professor Christian Leuprecht joins The Agenda with Steve Paikan, alongside Robert Gordon and Professor Stephanie Carvin, to examine cyber threat in Canada.
“This is basically cyber piracy and the Russians are basically hosting and endorsing cyber piracy,” notes Leuprecht. “The problem is here the challenge of deterrence, there needs to be consequences for countries that tolerate non state actors that engage in these sort of behaviours.”
