Canada’s membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has been brought into question by some in recent months. Some activists have argued that NATO should have been disbanded years ago following the end of the Soviet Union, but MLI Senior Fellow Christian Leuprecht argues that such ideas are entirely misguided. He joined the Forum Daily to discusses the importance of NATO and why Canada should maintain its membership.
Speaking about Canada’s role in NATO, Leuprecht argues that “democracy needs to be defended, it cannot just be taken for granted, whether that’s instability in the Balkans or counterinsurgency and terrorism missions or it’s advising countries on how to rebuild their institutions or to contain revisionists powers like Russia or China.”
