MLI Munk Senior Fellow Benjamin Perrin was on CBC Radio’s The Early Edition to discuss his latest report – an annotated version of Canada’s Criminal Code that examines social media crimes and gives examples of court case precedence.
“It’s the Wild West out there and what we are seeing are increasing numbers of Canadians becoming victims of crime on social media,” notes Perrin.
A crucial problem is that policing and law-making have not caught up to social media technology and its impact on crime.
“Judges are all over the map. Some of them don’t know what a tweet is or a retweet.”
