A month after the worst mass shooting in Canadian history, new information is coming to light about the shooter. Acquaintances of the shooter told police that he was abusive and paranoid. Witnesses stated that the shooter also had a collection of guns, decomissioned police cars, police uniforms and equipment.
However, MLI Senior Fellow Christian Leuprecht points out that the shooter’s collection of old police cars wouldn’t have been sufficient grounds for the police to investigate him, nor was his ownership of guns sufficient grounds for an investigation.
“Simply a neighbour simply saying that ‘I think someone is storing firearms illegally’ would likely not be sufficient grounds for search and seizure.”
