New program will allow MLI to build on its successes in helping to make Canada one of the best-governed countries in the world
OTTAWA, July 15, 2016 – The Macdonald-Laurier Institute is putting the best minds in Canada to work on the issues that are vital to the country’s security, prosperity and freedom with the launch of the Munk Senior Fellows program.
The program, made possible by a grant from Peter Munk and the Aurea Foundation, will allow MLI to significantly expand its thought leadership program which has helped make Canada one of the best-governed countries in the world.

This grant is just the latest contribution Peter Munk, a globally renowned business leader, entrepreneur and philanthropist, and his wife Melanie Munk have made to public policy in Canada.

MLI has assembled an influential team of experts in important fields such as Aboriginal issues, natural resources, the economy, justice and security, to fill out their Munk Senior Fellows roster.
They will give greater profile to MLI ideas in the nation’s news broadcasts, opinion pages and social media debates, and the meeting rooms in Ottawa where important decisions are made.
Included on the roster of Munk Senior Fellows are several authors who have previously gained national recognition for their thought leadership as part of the MLI Senior Fellows program, and several new Munk Senior Fellows:

- Alex Wilner, counterterrorism and intelligence
- Christian Leuprecht, defence and border security
- Laura Dawson, Canada-US relations
- Benjamin Perrin, criminal justice

- Richard Owens, innovation and intellectual property
- Alastair Gillespie, Canadian political tradition
- Shuvaloy Majumdar, foreign policy
MLI is launching a special website devoted to the program. It will also significantly expand the number of research publications, op-eds and media interviews in which MLI authors participate.
