Speaking to the Hill Times, MLI Senior Fellow Ken Coates says a recent Supreme Court decision that expands Aboriginal land title rights will force natural resource companies to adopt a new approach to Aboriginal relations.
Far from erecting more obstacles to future resource development, however, Coates argues that the ruling presents an opportunity for a relationship “that’s based on partnership as opposed to consider First Nations as roadblocks to development”.
