OTTAWA, ON April 5th, 2013 – The Macdonald-Laurier Institute, Canada’s fastest rising independent, non-partisan think tank announces the appointment of Sean Osmar as the Institute’s new Director of Communications. Mr. Osmar will be quarterbacking an ambitious and robust roll out of the public policy analysis and commentary that is quickly garnering national and international accolades for the young think tank.
“MLI was launched just over three years ago with the explicit purpose of making poor public policy unacceptable in Canada” Mr. Osmar said. “MLI is quickly drawing attention from political and opinion leaders in Canada, and more importantly MLI is engaging more and more Canadians in the debates and issues that affect us all; from national security, to economic and fiscal policy, healthcare reform, first nations, and energy and natural resources to name a few. I am very proud to join this team and excited to partake in these discussions.”
Sean joins the Macdonald-Laurier Institute after leaving the federal government in the Fall of 2012 to spend time with his wife and their son, born in June. He brings with him five years of experience in various communications roles, including in the Prime Minister’s Office and most recently as Press Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board.
Born and raised in Calgary, AB, Sean moved to Ottawa in 2002 to pursue his studies in Canadian history at Carleton University.
“I am grateful for the unique opportunity to serve the Canadian public for the past five years in government,” Sean says, “but as I begin a new chapter in my career I look forward to building on the important work that the Macdonald-Laurier Institute has achieved by being an independent, non-partisan advocate for thoughtful analysis and commentary that contributes to stronger public policy”
