Munk Senior Fellow Christian Leuprecht was interviewed by Global News on the tracking and subsequent arrest of University of Waterloo student Kevin Omar Mohamed for participating in terrorism. Omar had sent messages to ISIS regarding the RMC being a potential target for a terrorist attack. The engineering student has been sentenced to four-and-a-half months in jail after being tracked for months before his arrest and trial.
As Leuprecht comments, “The continued awareness that sites such as [the Royal Military College] remain a potentially appealing target for the odd twisted individual, reminds us we need to be vigilant and alert.”
Dr. Leuprecht is a professor of Political Science at Canada’s Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario, and an expert on anti-terrorism, national security and international affairs.
