Over the past month, MLI has received some media attention worth noting! On September 1, 2011, The Globe and Mail posted MLI Senior Fellow Alex Wilner’s 2010 Senate Testimony on prison radicalization in full as a backgrounder to an article, Canada’s imprisoned bomb-plotters say their isolation does not fit the crime.
On September 5, 2011, The Hill Times quoted MLI board member and fraud lawyer Lincoln Caylor in an article where he discussed the issue of under-reporting of white-collar crimes. He said that the police and Crown prosecutors often lack the knowledge and resources needed to pursue an investigation and charges. He added that Bill C-21 (Standing up for Victims of White-collar Crime Act), which makes it compulsory for judges to consider giving victims restitution, is a step in the right direction. However, it is not often that criminals actually have the money to make restitutions.
