Institute broadens its reach to policy makers and opinion leaders by delivering a full range of content across mobile platforms

Ottawa, February 12, 2014 – The Macdonald-Laurier Institute today announced the release of its new iPhone application and mobile optimized website, a major step in its efforts to engage opinion leaders, policy makers and the public on the most popular mobile device platforms in the marketplace today. The app and mobile site will provide quick, easy, mobile access to MLI’s high-quality, independent policy work, and the latest news and media coverage, greatly expanding the amount of MLI content available to mobile readers. It has never been easier to keep up with the activities of a Canadian leader in public policy.

The iPhone app particularly was developed to allow the Macdonald-Laurier Institute to send push notifications to policy leaders with the latest news and updates. Push notifications are the latest advancement in getting up-to-date information to an audience on-the-fly.  To visit the new mobile site, go to macdonaldlaurier.ca with your mobile device of choice; for the app go to http://getmyapp.me/MLI/ on your iPhone.

“MLI exists to make good ideas work for Canadians, whether those ideas are in public policy, technology or elsewhere”, said Brian Lee Crowley, MLI’s Managing Director. “Our new mobile app and website are thus the embodiment of our work; they will allow us to put the best public policy ideas in front of opinion leaders, policy makers and all Canadians on their mobile devices. That is where people are increasingly turning for information, and that’s where we need to be, too”.

The Macdonald-Laurier Institute’s mobile applications are developed and maintained by Purple Forge.  Purple Forge is the world’s leading provider of mobile applications to associations and advocacy organizations, and has deployed apps for organizations such as the OSI Clinic Network serving Canada’s veterans seeking help for mental health issues, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police for their field service guides.

“The Macdonald-Laurier Institute is taking a significant step forward in engaging their audience to help shape a higher-quality of public policy”, said John Craig, VP Sales and Marketing of Purple Forge. “Their choice in adopting a mobile application as a next-generation means of connecting with these groups showcases their commitment to innovation in providing services to our next generation of political leaders”.
