Christian Leuprecht, a professor at Queen’s University and the Royal Military College of Canada, and author of a forthcoming MLI paper on the costs of policing, will appear on The Agenda on TVO this evening at 8 pm and 11 pm.
Host Steve Paikin will interview departing OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis, and host a panel to discuss the factors that are making policing in Ontario more expensive. Leuprecht, who is also co-author of a 2013 MLI paper titled “Organized crime beyond the border” will join panelists Cochrane mayor Peter Politis, OPP bureau commander Rick Philbin, and Port Hope mayor Linda Thompson to share ideas for reducing policing costs.
Leuprecht’s upcoming paper examines the political and institutional factors that raise police salaries and other costs, and explores innovative ways to deliver the security services that Canadians demand while allowing well-compensated and highly trained officers to concentrate on core policing tasks.
