But even with a deal offered, there is still a very real chance it will not help the two Michaels.
“We just need to make sure that whatever deal is being sealed is a deal that’s in the interests of Canada, “explains Leuprecht. “Perhaps in the interest of the government of the day or not, but that is also compliant with the rule of law and our broader geostrategic interests, in terms of reigning in Chinese broad behaviour.”
