On November 22, the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, with the support of Korea Foundation, hosted an exclusive roundtable discussion on the theme of Canada-Korea relations at Ottawa’s Rideau Club, focusing on energy security within the context of Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy, with the aim of fostering a deeper common understanding of the evolving landscape of energy security, geopolitical dynamics, technological innovations, policy frameworks, and investment opportunities in the Indo-Pacific theatre.
Following introductory remarks by Jonathan B. Miller, senior fellow and Director of the Foreign Policy program at MLI, special guest speakers and senior fellows Dr. Heather Exner-Pirot and Dr. Jeff Kucharski set the tone of the discussion, highlighting the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges and opportunities in the energy sector.
Following the remarks of the special guest speakers, a moderated discussion ensued over dinner as attendees posed questions on the future of Canada-Korea relations, the need for greater cooperation among democratic nations in the Indo-Pacific region to counter Beijing, and Canada’s potential role as an energy resource provider in the region.
