A new employment tribunal decision in the United Kingdom has punished a corporation for wokeness in the workplace. Hopefully, this act of justice starts a wave of accountability in Canada, too.
Comcast’s British telecommunications subsidiary, Sky, has been ordered to pay one of its employees £14,000. The offence? One of Sky’s in-house “inclusion advocates” told another worker she should consider herself oppressed because of her skin colour.
The tribunal’s unanimous decision states, “The remark equated the colour of the claimant’s skin with her having been oppressed and that the claimant would have felt that oppression, which had not been the claimant’s view or experience. We considered that the claim of direct discrimination on the ground of the protected characteristic of race.”
