In an article published Nov. 29, the Canadian Medical Association Journal reports on the findings of MLI’s recent publication, “A European flavour for medicare: Learning from experiments in Switzerland and Sweden.” Lead author Mattias Lundback, a health economics researcher in Stockholm, told the CMAJ that “I think if you want to stimulate productivity … you have to allow changes to enter into the system by outsiders.” The article notes the report’s findings that health outcomes in Canada don’t compare well to many other nations, despite being a leader in terms of health spending. Quoted in the CMAJ article, Lundback encourages Canadians to “look at ways of doing things differently, and experimenting with models for health care deliveries and new organizational models.”
