Paul Romer

Expert Overview

Paul Romer is MLI's Senior Fellow in Urbanization and Economic Development. He is a Professor of Economics and the Director of the Urbanization Project at the New York University Stern School of Business. Romer founded Charter Cities, a non-profit focused on policies at the intersection of governance, urbanization, and development. Prior to joining Stern, Romer taught at Stanford's Graduate School of Business, where he took an entrepreneurial detour to start Aplia, an education technology company dedicated to increasing student effort and engagement. In 2002, he received Recktenwald Prize for his work on the role of ideas in sustaining economic growth. Romer is co-author of Success and the City: How charter cities could transform the developing worldpublished by the Macdonald-Laurier Institute in April 2012.
