On December 10th, in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, MLI hosted a forum at the Petroleum Club in Calgary to discuss the business case for Canadian energy. The event brought together German and Canadian energy experts, practitioners and thought leaders, to discuss the opportunities and challenges for Canada to play a bigger role in European energy security.
Panellists discussed the untapped opportunities for leveraging Canadian energy and resources to support our allies’ energy security. They also discussed extensive innovation and emissions reduction strategies being pursued by Canadian industry to provide responsible products and technologies to our partners in Germany and beyond.
On paper, Canada is an energy superpower as the fourth largest producer of crude oil, the fifth largest producer of natural gas, and the second largest producer of hydropower in the world. It has the world’s third largest reserves of oil and is the only OECD nation in the top 10.
Yet uniquely and inexplicably, even in this era of international war and growing energy insecurity, energy policy undermines the Canadian energy industry and misses opportunities to advance Canadian values abroad. MLI’s Heather Exner-Pirot hosted top experts from Canadian think tanks, academia, the energy industry and government to discuss a better path forward for Canada.
