MLI Senior Fellow Christian Leuprecht joined CTV News to discuss the first large-scale evacuation of foreigners since US forces fully withdrew from Afghanistan. Leuprecht goes on to discuss Qatar’s role in Afghanistan and what the Taliban is aiming for on the international stage.
“I think this is the tragedy we’re seeing, the human tragedy, that the Taliban know that the more foreigners that leave, the less leverage they’re going to be able to have to influence foreign governments,” notes Leuprecht. “And so on this infamous flight here, it’s not just Americans, there were Canadians, Ukranians, Brits, Germans, and so you can see how the Taliban, I think, are trying to leverage all these relationships.”
