: Senior Fellow
Stephen Blank (BA, Dartmouth; MA, Cambridge; MA, PhD, Harvard) is Director of the Portal for North America, an online network linking main centres on North American research and teaching. He serves as Senior Fellow at the Center for North American Studies at American University, Senior Research Analyst at Arizona State University's North American Center for Transborder Studies and Adjunct Research Scholar, Center for Energy, Marine Transport and Public Policy at Columbia University.
Dr. Blank was a member of the University of Pittsburgh's Political Science Department (1967-74) and Pace University's Lubin School of Business (1986-2006), where he served as Director of the Center for International Business Studies. Blank was a visiting professor at Yale's School of Organization and Management, Dartmouth's Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at (Visiting Professor 1981-89), the University of Toronto, Dalhousie University, the University of British Columbia, the International University of Japan, Columbia University's School of Public and International Affairs, HEC-Montreal and Western Washington University.
Between 1969 and 1974, Dr. Blank was the Executive Director of the Council for European Studies, an inter-university consortium of Western European Studies Programs. As a member of The Conference Board from 1975 until 1980, Blank headed its Multinational Corporate Conduct Project and directed its International Political and Social Analysis Program. In 1978, he was a founding partner of Multinational Strategies, Inc., an international management consultancy and in 1985, of Stephen Blank Associates. From 1997 to 2004, Blank was Managing Director of the PanAmerican Partnership for Business Education, an alliance of four North American business schools.
Dr. Blank was a Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow and a scholar in residence at the Villa Serbeloni in Bellagio, Italy. He served as a Claude Bissell Visiting Professor of US-Canada Relations at the University of Toronto in 1998 and in 2004-05 was a Fulbright Distinguished Professor associated with the University of Montreal's Centre for International Study and Research. In 2008-2010, he was the Ross Distinguished Visiting Professor of Canada-U.S. Business and Economic Relations at Western Washington University.
Blank has authored and co-authored many publications. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2002, was awarded L'Ordre National du Quebec by the Government of Quebec. In June 2009, he was granted the first North American Citizen award by the North American Center for Transborder Studies at Arizona State University and in November, the first North America Works award by North America Works in Kansas City, Missouri.
