Expert Overview

Dr. Ramona Coelho, MDCM, CCFP, is a family physician based in London, Ontario. She began her medical career as a home care physician at CLSC Metro in Montreal, Quebec. There she developed a strong foundation in providing compassionate care to patients in their homes who had addictions or complex care needs or who were dying. After relocating to London, Dr. Coelho established a family practice that primarily serves individuals living with disabilities, and mental health disorders including addictions, refugees, and other marginalized groups who often face barriers to accessing healthcare.

Dr. Coelho has become a well-recognized advocate for vulnerable populations, frequently lending her expertise to legislative discussions. She has served as an expert witness before both the House and Senate committees examining Bill C-7, which addressed Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). Additionally, she contributed to the federal Special Joint Committee on MAiD. Her dedication remains to ensuring that the voices of vulnerable populations are heard in crucial policy discussions.

Dr. Coelho is also a founding member of Physicians Together with Vulnerable Canadians, an organization dedicated to supporting those at risk, and she serves on the MAiD Death Review Committee, which works with Ontario's Office of the Chief Coroner to address public safety concerns in reviewing MAiD cases. With over 17 years of experience, Dr. Coelho remains committed to improving healthcare on a broader, population level. Outside of her medical practice, she is a devoted mother to five children and serves as a caregiver for her father, who is living with her family and has dementia. Her work embodies a dedication to equitable and accessible healthcare for all.
