Munk Senior Fellow Christian Leuprecht joined CTV News to discuss the significance of the Ukrainian recapture of a village in Kherson, Southern Ukraine.
According to Leuprecht, the Southern regions of Ukraine have less Russian resistance and allow the Ukrainian army to field-test new weaponry provided by Euro-Atlantic partners.
“The challenge you point out is that the Ukrainians are running out of their own ammunition for their Soviet-style weaponry: they don’t produce their own mid and long-range munitions, and so have to rely on short-range munitions,” said Leuprecht.
“They’re also running short on fuel because the Russians have taken out the refinery capability within Ukraine. So indeed, the Ukrainian military is entirely dependent on the Euro-Atlantic community and NATO as an enabler to keep Ukraine in this fight.”
