MLI Senior Fellow Christian Leuprecht joined CTV News to discuss the first press conference held by the Taliban days after their rapid takeover of Afghanistan. Leuprecht discusses the attempts by the Taliban to present a more moderate face to the Western world days after the takeover, the current situation in the country, and Canada’s plans to resettle 20,000 Afghans.
“I think the Taliban understand the western coalition has built considerable human skill sets and resources that are an important asset to the Taliban,” notes Leuprecht. He goes on to say that it has yet to be seen whether this more “moderate voice” will be sustained and implemented in policy moving forward.
