MLI Senior Fellow Chris Sankey joined On Point with Alex Pierson to discuss his experiences of being an intergenerational survivor of residential schools. They also discuss why he feels the statues of Canada’s forefathers need to stay up as a reminder, and more indigenous statues have to go up also.
“Look, what happened to us was wrong and I think Canadians have now woken up to just how devastating these schools were,” says Sankey. “But tearing down John A Macdonald statues is not going to solve the current problems plaguing our communities today.”
