Despite Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent indictments, he has just been re-elected, for a record fifth term, as Israel’s Prime Minister. Elliot Tepper, MLI Research Advisory Board Member, comments on the most recent Israeli election.
“I think on the one hand, this is a status quo election, and on the other hand, I can argue, I think this is a realigning election in terms of both domestic and regional affairs,” says Tepper.
It seems like the Netanyahu government will carry on as usual. However, internal party dynamics in Israel have been realigned, with previous dominant parties, specifically the Labour Party, reducing in popularity and in seats. There are also various implications for Israeli’s international relations with countries such as the United States and Russia.
Tepper claims that in the Middle East, “the possibility exists, with the Trump plan, that we are on the cusp of serious changes within the region.”
