Omar Khadr’s was officially made free by a judge from Alberta, Edmonton. Scott Newark, a former Alberta Crown Prosecutor, joined Rob Breakenridge to discuss what this means for Canadian security.
Khadr was a formed Guantanamo Bay prisoner who pleaded guilty to killing U.S Sergeant, Christoper Speer in 2002. Opinions about Khadr’s case are torn. Many people have labelled Khadr as a terrorist. However, “this was a kid who was inculcated into an Islamist death cult by his parents” says Newark.
“The point of it is is that he is returning to the circumstances of, generally speaking, the lawful conditions of all Canadians in Canada.”
