OTTAWA, ON (April 9, 2018): As Alberta and British Columbia squabble over the proposed Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline, the company has announced that it has put the project on hold, and declared that the project might be cancelled if an agreement isn’t reached by May 31.
The economic stakes are high. And this is a crucial moment for Canada to come to grips with how to execute major projects that cross provincial boundaries. The spotlight is now on the federal government and its determination to defend the national interest.
This is an issue where MLI’s experts have had plenty to say. Nothing less is at risk than the ability of the federal government to exercise its legitimate democratic jurisdiction on behalf of all Canadians and the ability of Ottawa, the police and the courts to ensure that the law is respected.”
