The federal government has given the go-ahead to two major pipelines projects – Trans Mountain and Line 3 – while rejecting Northern Gateway.

“Indigenous peoples have very strong right”, says Coates in the video. “The problem is Indigenous peoples don’t have very clear rights”. Coates notes that even the First Nations that approved of the projects had very difficult internal debates about them. He sees the potential for conflict ahead.
