MLI author Dwight Newman and Senior Fellow Ken Coates spoke to several radio stations about the federal government’s decision on Northern Gateway.
Coates says the conditional approval of the pipeline, which the government announced on Tuesday, now puts the onus on winning support from Aboriginal communities.
“We just have to get used to the fact that First Nations will be partners”, Ken Coates told John Gormely Live on CKOM in Saskatoon. “And they have to be brought on board and you have to bring them on board by convincing them this is an environmentally-sound project”.
“It’s very difficult to imagine a project going forward without substantial Aboriginal support”, he added.
Coates also spoke with 680 CJOB in Winnipeg, the Rob Breakenridge Show, CBC Radio in Prince George, B.C. and Kate MacNamara of CBC’s business desk.
Newman was interviewed on the subject by CFAX 1070 in Victoria and CBC’s Blue Sky in Saskatchewan.
